This will be my first year in kindergarten. I am coming from 3rd grade and have very little to support the learning of "new to school" learners. The items I have requested will ensure that ALL my students have the materials needed to learn and grow during their first year of school. From supporting beginning (listening centers) to emerging (ELA games and books) as well as building math skills, these materials requested will assist in developing a strong educational foundation. The items on my project list were primarily selected to set up learning centers for students that are 5-6 years of age. These students enter school at many different levels in regards to reading and number sense skills. The cd player, headphones and read along storage unit will allow me to set up a reading center for beginning readers. It will allow them to listen and follow along with the text to build an understanding of print and the enjoyment of a good story. The language and math centers requests will allow my students to build number sense and practice word study; both of which contribute to a solid educational foundation. Floor puzzles will allow them to practice fine motor skills, develop sequencing and problem solving skills and build literacy and vocabulary skills. My goal, as a teacher, is to build a classroom community that shares kindness, caring and a love of learning with all students. These materials will help us do just that as I build a classroom that supports all students learning through engaging activities.
