As we move into next year, it is uncertain whether we will be in person, distance learning or a combination of both. However, I would like to start the 2020-2021 school year focusing on discussions involving our diversity of languages, cultures and race in our classroom, ensuring each student feels they are welcomed and belong in the class. Read alouds are a great way to start these conversations with students, and it is important that they see their culture and race represented in classroom books. With these books I will be able to foster discussions about inequality, immigration and inclusion. I need a classroom library that reflects the same beauty, pain and uniqueness that is relatable to the many languages, cultures and races that make up my classroom family and the future community and leaders that I know my students will become.
