This past year has brought many challenges as a teacher. Two of these have been:
1. After having moved my resource room twice in the past year, I have now been allowed to create a space in the basement of our school. However, materials are limited and I have not been given financial support to purchase furniture. My Assistant and I were able to find: 1 round table, a couple of book shelves and chairs.
2. Coming back to school during a pandemic. I need to ensure my student's safety and address their individual needs; without our room feeling like a sterile and stark environment.
A Little Bit of Sunshine is a project to get tables, a large group area and flexible seating. The children will benefit from these materials on a daily basis during small group, pull-out instruction. The two different colored tables will serve as a visual reminder of where each child should sit. Floor time is an important part of Early Childhood development - the carpet adds warmth and a cushioned spot for them to sit and explore materials. The flexible seating (lap desks and foldable seats) will be an additional option for them and allow for socially distant instruction and learning. These resources will help create a calming and welcoming environment as we begin this new journey together.
