All students deserve to come to school prepared to learn. Many times, we assume that the necessary tools include pencils, paper, crayons, etc. The students in our building, however, need more. They need resources that help them address the many adversities they face on a daily basis. If we ignore this, our students are not properly prepared to learn The materials requested will help provide the greatly needed supports that our students need. Often times, the students I work with become frustrated, irritated, or angry and work towards daily behavior points. My students seem to find comfort and calm down with just the simplest things such as playing with play dough, coloring or drawing on the dry erase boards. By providing these things and creating a place where students can go within the classroom and do this, will give them the opportunity to remove themselves for a time and calm down. In addition, resources for character education and positive behavior supports and rewards, such as a piece of candy, will provide the tools necessary for me to help support my students by using researched based approaches to teach the necessary coping skills.
