Basic needs have to be met for children to succeed in school. Food, safety, shelter. The handmade blankets should help the children feel love, kindness, security, and warmth. Three years ago, I bought 45 blankets from Sears and Walmart and donated them to two schools where I worked. They went home with the kids who also got food every weekend. "The backpack kids" are the group of children who take home a backpack of canned food every Friday. I would like to have 100 blankets or more to give away to the children in need and their families. If I have every 5th grade student help tie and connect the two-layer blankets for the children in need, then over 100 students will benefit from this project. I want the students who are making the blankets to do so with love in their hearts. The students who will receive the blankets should feel the love from their community.
