One area my students struggle the most with is our block scheduling. Some classes are over 90 minutes long. That is a long time to sit! Having taught for 13 years, I realize I can't sit for that long. I'm constantly moving. I try and provide as many opportunities for movement as possible in the classroom but they aren't always available. Many of my students have learning disabilities and need to stand to focus. I'm requesting 6 standing desks so that some of my students have an opportunity to stand if they need to. Because I teach all middle school social studies, 146 students will have access throughout the week to use these desks. At these standing desks students can still do their work while utilizing these flexible learning stations. The addition of flexible seating would give my students a much needed way to focus on their academics without distracting the other students around them.
