An easel provides focus for my students, especially during Reading Workshop, where my young readers gather daily on a carpet. Here, the easel becomes a focal point for engaging in lessons by creating and interacting with anchor charts. These charts become reference tools for students throughout the year. The easel is also used to organize our daily materials so that students can find chart paper, markers, pointers, and mentor texts. In an urban school district with limited resources, I am unable to replace my stationary wooden easel which is in a state of disrepair. With a new Copernicus easel, my young readers can safely participate in lessons. They will be able to write on and access materials from the easel during whole and small group lessons or independent practice. The easel is double-sided for use with multiple groups.
