With a diverse learning community, not every student has equitable access to books at a young age. Therefore, I have a wide range of readers in my classroom. Our current classroom library does not offer a wide variety of texts for these beginning readers to choose from. New books to choose from would inspire my students to continue trying to solve words and see themselves as readers. Some students are struggling readers and notice others in the classroom reading texts with more interesting covers and/or pictures. For some, this may lead to them feeling discouraged. New book options would change that! Every child is a reader and should feel in their heart that they can persevere.
