My goal as a school counselor working with students on the autism spectrum and with emotional disabilities is to develop interactive programming that allows students to learn pro-social behaviors, communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills. Providing a curriculum using technology and interactive media provides an exciting way to enhance the development of key social and communication skills for students that have a deficit in these areas. With the use of an assisted technology device (IPAD), students will be able to video tape role-plays (video modeling), provide self-reflection, and develop his or her own social story. The Autism Speaks Foundation supports the use of technology to promote these essential skills for our young learners.
