Picture yourself living in a poor, inner city neighborhood, being raised by one parent and experiencing severe challenges in learning.  The children in my K-5 special education classes experience these, and more serious, challenges daily.  We are a Title 1 school in which 98% of students qualify for free meals.  And our North Carolina school district announced in Spring '09 that it is facing the most severe budget challenge in its history.
