For a long while, I had wanted to try my hand at miniature painting but had put it off for one reason or another, usually time. At one point during quarantine, I decided that I would give it a go and found that not only was it as enjoyable as I had hoped, but it was relaxing and help take my mind off the uncertainties of the pandemic, if only for a short time. Upon returning to school this year, I began to think that the students of my school might benefit from the same type of distraction. Not only will painting miniatures focus student minds on something other than the pandemic, but it will also build their hand-eye coordination, strengthen their ability to persist [those little faces can be tough to paint!], expand their creative options, and in the end, they will have something they can take home and be proud of. My miniature painting club will meet weekly after school as well as monthly during the school day, as a part of our IMPACT program. I intend to supply paint, brushes, and miniatures for my students and tips and tricks that will make their painting more successful. As an art teacher of 21 years, I know the difference creative outlets can make in a student's life. My hope is that this club will give the students of my school another opportunity to stretch those creative muscles.
