Reading is important and vital for student success. As the Librarian is it my responsibility to introduce my students to a variety of genres and subjects through books. This year my students are on a hybrid/online schedule and I thought it would be a great opportunity for them to partake in a book study. I wanted to choose a book they could engage with and something that could be relatable to them due to the current events around the world. The Just Mercy book study will help my students with reading and with open dialogue and discussions. The Just Mercy book study will charter vocabulary development which is also important in student success inside and out of the classroom. I believe the greatest benefit would be my students increasing their social skills among their peers while having meaningful discussions about varying topics that would arise from reading the book. I know my students will be excited and I can’t wait to afford them the opportunity.
