I have 10 wonderful students. My students all have special needs and are in a district level program. Our school is a low-income school with many "at risk" factors that each student faces. However, my focus is to make our classroom a safe and fun place to be. We are a family and function like a family unit. We laugh, cry, and learn together. They teach me as much as I teach them. All of my students are affected by Autism and face many social and communication challenges on a daily basis. In addition, they also have sensory, fine motor, gross motor, oral, behavioral, and may other challenges that the typically developing child often doesn't even factor into daily routines. The students are sensitive to auditory, visual, and sensory distractions. I use a variety of strategies to regulate and teach each student at their individual levels.
