These materials will provide my students with a better education and a better equipped classroom. All the coloring tools I have requested allow students to color code vocabulary and mathematical steps (especially meaningful for English Language Learners and Special Education students). It is easy to get lost in the messiness of one's writing in math. I specifically request different colored highlighters, markers, colored pencils, pens, and pencils in order to allow students to make the most out of differentiating content through color. Specifically in Integrated Math II (Geometry), I would use the tracing paper and different colored markers or pencils in a project for students to visualize what corresponding sides and angles represents in two different figures that are relevant to them. For example, each group would receive a unique set of the same image. One group might receive the school logo in two different sizes and orientations, while another group may receive a picture of their favorite food or professional athlete. This project requires students to trace one figure onto the tracing paper and then use the tracing paper to map it onto the other figure and reason whether or not the two figures are similar, congruent, or neither using mathematical reasoning. If similar or congruent, groups must color code with matching colors corresponding sides and angles. As groups work well as a team, raffle tickets are given to promote positive group work and serve as a visual reminder of our probability unit. I request color coded files and folders because our classroom is in need of these items in order to keep all student work organized and easily accessible for both students and teacher. These items will set all my students up for success and excite us all about the generous opportunity donorschoose.org brings to our classroom!
