Early childhood education is the foundation of education. Learning to read, write, understand basic mathematics and science principles are imperative for students to move forward into upper grades. I am fortunate enough to be teaching in a school that promotes teacher autonomy and differentiated instruction. I am able to use my expertise and knowledge to encourage students to learn in a developmentally appropriate way. Students at ACADIA are from Lewiston and Auburn Maine, where most (if not all) schools qualify for Title I funds. While teachers are supported by the administration, budgets are tight. Therefore, in order to provide an enriching educational experience, many teachers dig into their own pockets to support their classrooms. My students are in need of several classroom materials that promote a hands-on, developmentally appropriate education. We appreciate the generosity and support of our classroom.
