High interest/low level reading books have content written specifically for middle or high school students reading significantly below grade level, and are a critical tool in helping my students succeed. Being able to read the same content as their peers will boost my students' confidence and instill in them a passion for reading, which will have lasting effects beyond the classroom. Having multiple copies of novels will allow for book clubs and guided reading for small group instruction; I have chosen a large selection of novels at different reading levels so that students have plenty of titles to choose from as they grow as readers. A subscription to a class set of Scholastic magazines will also be a valuable teaching tool in teaching nonfiction with current, engaging articles.
