I am requesting some tools to provide students with a safe, non-distracting way to get their energy out, reduce anxiety, and be creative. For instance, students can use the various fidgets to hold and manipulate while doing difficult tasks. The act of fidgeting can calm some students and provide them with a less distracting tactile outlet. The stability wobble cushions provide students with alternative seating. It also allows students with "the wiggles" to wiggle quietly rather than moving about the classroom or rocking back and forth in a chair. The story cubes and bristle blocks provide students with a creative outlet while in the quiet area, which calms students and helps them to rejoin our group focused and ready to work. All of these tools will help my students achieve at higher levels because they can better focus their attention on the tasks in class rather than their heightened emotional state. My students deserve tools to help them focus, so that they can have more opportunities in education and life.
