The purpose of this project is to acquire various props and dramatic play items for our classroom ASL Lab. The ASL Lab is set up with different settings (such as a kitchen, restaurant, grocery store, doctor’s office, pet store, etc.). Students will use the dramatic play items in order to increase their vocabulary and basic language skills in ASL. Whatever happened to dramatic play in kindergarten classrooms? Little kids learn through play! Because most of my students do not have constant language input at home, they are lacking basic vocabulary and rely on pointing and gestures to communicate. In the ASL Lab, my students play, act out skits, create dialogue, and thrive on these opportunities to learn and use language.
