I was awarded Michigan's Charter School Teacher of the Year in 2013 and my excitement and enthusiasm grows with each year passing. Although I had a rough start in life, a high school dropout and dissociated from my family, I managed to graduate from the University of Michigan with a perfect grade point average and high distinction. I have never looked back because I know I was one of the few success stories in the statistics. My experience allows me to relate to troubled students and it taught me how to encourage rather than discourage dreams our future leaders have in mind. Now I am a middle school teacher who teaches the same students two years in a row and I love it. I get to witness little children turning into articulate young adults that begin thinking beyond their own wants and needs. It motivates me to want to do all I can to help them achieve their goals and encourage their dreams and ambitions.
