Our school is centered in a diverse community. The school serves Pre-K to fifth grade. Our educational program bears the challenges faced by children from single dwellings and apartment complexes in low socio-economic areas. Ninety-five percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. My school is a Title 1 school and the school community is constantly going through a transformation due to a high mobility rate. Three percent of school population is from a homeless environment. There is evidence that displays several gaps in student learning that are impacted by literacy. Consequently, a deficit has been indicated in the reading which has impacted lower scores in other content areas. Though there are students who are maintaining success, there are many students within sub-groups that are not performing well due to limited resources and support. With the resources provided by your donation, our school will be able to make an impact to improve literacy for our fifth grade students.
