My sixth grade students are beginning learners when we speak of them taking effective notes in class. Unfortunately, many of them do not have dedicated notebooks for each content that is taught. This tends to hinder their learning abilities, as well as limits their organizational skills. Both of these play a vital role in the success of their academics. Through the use of Focus Notes notebooks, each paper is sectioned for key content, purpose (which aligns to daily learning targets), summary, and date, which will teach students how to place key information in its proper pace. As a teacher, I often return to previous notes for my students to find pertinent information. When my students have these notebooks, it will make this process much smoother for recollection of information. Also, this allows them to have dedicated notebooks for math. As with any other component in life, if you do not have the necessary materials, the outcome is not the best. How can we bake a cake if we don't have flour-particularly self-rising flour? The same is said for the right school supplies/materials. When we don't have the right ingredients, how can expect our students to rise to their full potential?
