The purpose of a peace corner is to create an inviting place to find peace; a safe haven where students can communicate with respect and patience. The atmosphere should be calming and consist of activities that help to create a sense of peace within the student. The Montessori Peace Area is used for conflict resolution, encouraging a peaceful environment, and instilling peaceful habits and attitudes. The items requested can and will foster the goal of students self -regulation, empathy, mindfulness, and joy fullness. This atmosphere allows a positive attitude and respect towards others. With the help of this center students learn conflict resolution, self-help techniques such as yoga and meditation, and calming focus using mindfulness and soothing strategies with Buddha boards, coloring, reading, etc. The Montessori Peace Area provides supports for all learners through differentiation and reaching all of their senses. The zen garden, Buddha board, and labyrinth provides tactile and visual beauty while the coloring book develops patience and eye hand coordination appealing to the eyes. A variety of readings and books will reach across reading levels giving all students the opportunity to explore and achieve peace.
