My classroom thrives on constant collaboration and interaction between my students. I believe that if their learning is more student led, then they are more likely to participate in class. My focus is always on building relationships, ensuring that students feel a part of class, and promoting constant collaboration and participation! I am requesting dry-erase markers so that students can participate in check-ins, collaborative learning, and whole class discussions. The pandemic has caused me to rethink how I interact with my students due to the restrictions of social distancing and group work. As a way to get my students more involved, I am going to be cutting down a 8-feet by 4-feet whiteboard into 1 x 1 squares. Each student will be able to have an individual whiteboard with 32 in total. Giving each of my students a board AND a dry erase marker will allow me to complete quick checks and gain feedback from students while increasing participation. I understand that this is a simple request, but I know that my students would appreciate being given the opportunity to participate on a more individual level with these markers. As a 6th grade History teacher, it is my job to help the students understand the content, develop their ideas AND support and defend their opinion using credible sources. I know that giving students confidence to develop their own ideas is crucial. However, it is being able to defend those ideas that are key. I know that by giving my students more opportunities to voice their ideas, no matter how small, is vital to their social-emotional learning and self-esteem. Thank you in advance!
