I would like to provide my students with books they can read at home with their families. I have chosen some classroom favorites that students can read again and again. Reading "old favorites" help students improve their vocabulary, comprehension, and basic concepts about print. Students can read, retell, and act out stories they are familiar with. They can identify common sight words. They can choose to write their own stories based on some of these favorite characters. I have also chosen some non-fiction books which provide information and background knowledge as students learn about their world. My hope is to give my students more opportunities to practice their beginning reading skills while encouraging their love of books.
