The bean bags, I have requested funding for, will be added to my classroom library to promote reading. It is my belief that atmosphere affects the learning process. In addition to the bean bags, I will also include lamps in the reading area to further create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. It is my goal to provide a comfortable atmosphere to encourage my students to read. Reading for enjoyment impacts students vocabulary and comprehension. Research indicates that students that read at least 15 minutes daily score higher on comprehension tests as well as vocabulary tests. If I can provide a comfortable area for my students to read in, they will be more apt to read for enjoyment.
