My students absolutely love that they are learning to read. Unfortunately our guided reading library is very small. My students need both fiction and nonfiction readers that are on their grade level. They will need at least five copies of each book for our groups. I want to build a community of readers. Having books on their level will make them more confident as they read. When they feel confident they will enjoy reading and their love for reading will grow. Whole group carpet time is crucial in kindergarten! My students also need a comfy place to sit during whole group lessons. Having a carpet with colored squares will give the students a sense of ownership while on the carpet. This also helps the students to learn and respect personal space. Classroom management is higher when each student has an assigned spot on the carpet.
