My students don't have access to books at home, and I am a first year teacher so, my library is very small. By providing books that my students find to be interesting, I am allowing them an opportunity to really become immersed in reading, and the opportunity to develop a love for books. My students also need to have books that they can relate to so, many of the books from the "Who Is" series allows this by having my stories about amazing African Americans from history. For my female students I found the "Judy Moody" series really teaches girls to be outspoken and strong. Then there are the classics that all children should have as a staple in their personal knowledge of reading. I need to make sure that I have a full inclusion classroom library that allows my students, no matter their reading ability to be able to share the enjoyment of a good book with each other. I do not have books that will allow my students with special needs to be able to follow along with what the other students in the classroom are reading. In order to do this I chose to have books on CD so they can listen and follow along.
