I teach in a very rural area with a lot of diverse student populations. A lot of my students come to me with limited prior knowledge due to the high rate of poverty in our community; therefore, making connections with the discipline of language arts is somewhat difficult for the majority of them as their reading and writing is below grade level. Students lack access to print-rich environments; therefore, I strive to help my students become better critical thinkers, readers, and writers each year, in order to best prepare them to thrive in today's competitive global workforce. As an educator, my duty is to ensure that all of my students gain a quality education which will prepare them to be career and college ready post high school graduation. Therefore, it is important to me that my students have access to resources which will help them on their educational pathways.
