I always believe when it comes to reading that every child should have a book in their hands. Providing each students with a book will not only give them the opportunity to truly participate and engage in the reading experience, but it will also afford them the opportunity to read independently. Wonder is all about compassion, friendship and acceptance, and we need a class set of this book. Wonder allows me as the teacher to teach life lesson of compassion, friendship and acceptance while focusing on all the reading standards. Even though the book is 315 pages, it is so well-written that it allows even third graders the ability to stay engaged in the book and the ability to maintain comprehension of the story. The book also allows students to become critical readers beyond the basic element of the story. When students can make connections to the story then they are more likely to take on the reading challenges.
