All children, but in particular children with disabilities respond well to visual supports to supplement their curriculum and make their environment more clear and organized. With the supplies we are requesting (with the exception of the dustpan and broom which is just good to clean up all the messes our little ones make!), we will be able to print visual supports like: classroom rules, designate room/activity areas, create individualized picture schedules and picture communication systems, and so much more! Many of these items we make duplicates of are to send a matching set home with the children to give them and their families the added support and to create consistency between home and school. These visuals give our students a means to communicate when they are non-verbal, it gives them a sense of predictability and order, and it helps lessen the chaos that they are frightened of in "our world" and makes it more likely for them to explore our world with us.
