The best way for children to learn is to become completely immersed in an experience. After reading "Wonder," by RJ Palacio, I knew that this book has the ability to transport my students into the life of Auggie, a ten-year-old boy with an extraordinary face, who must overcome great challenges when he starts going to school for the first time. With 30 copies of this book, all of my students will get to read this amazing book and participate in class discussions about kindness and acceptance. They are starting to figure out who they are and where they fit in socially. By giving my students the opportunity to vicariously experience these challenges from the different perspectives in "Wonder," perhaps they will gain a better understanding of how to overcome their own challenges and learn some important life lessons along the way.
