My students are hosting their first, professional style art show. This year we have implemented a rigorous art program in Kinder - 6th grade. Students in 5th and 6th will be spending a whole quarter brainstorming, sketching, creating, and painting original artworks on canvas with acrylic, under a theme. Students will work in groups of 3-5 and write a proposal for their idea. The final show will be a dress-up, professional style gallery exhibit where they will invite their families and community members to see their work. They will talk about the elements and principles in their art, their motivation for it, and what it means to them. In order to host this great community event, we need brushes and canvases. We will auction off the art and use the proceeds to host Family Art Nights throughout the year, and to fund next year's art show.
