My classroom is built upon two guiding principles. First, failure is the first step towards success. Without the knowledge that we have gained from the numerous failures scattered throughout the history of science, our understanding of the world would be incredibly limited. Second, chemistry is meant to be experienced. Chemistry is an extremely complex subject that often discourages students from pursuing science after high school. To counter this, I focus my lessons around interesting chemical phenomena. I then have students actively engage their preexisting chemistry knowledge to address these phenomena. In this way, students "discover" the material rather than simply memorize it.
