These books will open doors to worlds my students could never imagine, such as the book "Treasure Island" which is a window into past adventures, trials, and successes. My students are trapped in a world of poverty and without books they can not see a way out or that the world has many opportunities for them if they are will to work hard and be persistent. For many of my students books become friends during lonely times of their lives. Unlike children of other districts these children do not get to go other places and experience the world. Books provide them those experiences that they could not get otherwise.
