I teach a course titled "Music Appreciation" on the south side of Chicago. As the title would suggest, I at times allow students to "appreciate" music by listening to music on their phones. However, it is difficult to establish a "no phone" rule during instruction -- especially during an age where phones seem to be literally attached to our young people. I am seeking a locker where students can safely lock their phones up during instruction and activities to ensure their full attention and engagement. This locker will help to keep my students piece of mind as they of course are worried about the safety of their devices. It will also teach them that being without their phones for a 50 minute class period is okay... and can be cleansing for the soul.
