Experiences, travel, enthusiasm, and a love for a good book is what I am trying to create for my first graders. I teach at a school that has limited funds and a high number of at-risk children. My students come from very rough environments and school is seen as a refuge. I would like to create in my students what I learned as a young child..books can take you anywhere. Stories and peoples lives can be interesting, funny, endearing, and an escape if only for a little while.
