My students, for a variety of reasons, have never been introduced to reading for fun. As 8th graders, my students often struggle with reading and need truly engaging texts that meet them at the level at which they are currently reading. I want to prepare my students for all the opportunities that life has to offer them. I do not want them to feel limited in the choices they have now and in their future. It is rare that my students have books at home to read and rely solely on borrowing books from my classroom library. When a student finally finds that one book that really speaks to them and engages them throughout the entire reading process, that students life is changed forever. They have now found what it is like to read just for fun.
