Flexible seating is transforming classrooms everywhere. Flexible seating will help me empower my students and create student-centered classrooms. Flexible seating allows the student to have some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating has six key benefits in the classroom. First, it gives the student a choice and some control over the environment. Second, it promotes a positive classroom community. Third, flexible seating promotes collaboration which teaches students how to work together to reach a common goal. Fourth, flexible seating promotes movement. Children need movement or they can become distracted. Fifth, students find flexible seating more comfortable than traditional seating. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Lastly, flexible seating creates sensory stimulation. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADD, ADHD, and ASD.
