My students have a strong need for sensory into their day. Having different ways to access these different sensory options is important for them to be able to focus, access education, and follow their schedule. We need to give our students the support and supplies they need to be able to get the education they deserve. By having these different supports in the classroom, we can teach the students how to access different sensory items to better calm their bodies or focus on their schoolwork. Teaching our students how to cope and find an appropriate sensory input is part of our jobs - with students of the highest poverty, they don't usually get these options. My students need frequent breaks throughout the day and will greatly benefit from many of these items to help them remain calm and relax. Sensory breaks help my students get back on track academically and behaviorally and this equipment will greatly help them during their day. This equipment will help calm my students and refocus them. Additionally, my students also have deficits when it comes to technology which is why I have requested a computer. Introducing my students to computers will greatly help them in their life after high school. I have also added an iPad to work on social stories and videos to aid the students in appropriate ways of interacting with others, asking for help, and for increasing their independence.
