As a Literacy teacher, I strive to encourage my students to love to read. Many of my 5th grade students struggle with reading and come to me multiple grade levels behind. When students struggle, they tend to not enjoy reading. The best way for these students to increase their reading ability is to read more often. One way I try to encourage students to read is by offering them a variety of books. Reading will allow students access to experiences that they may never get otherwise. Between building vocabulary, introducing historical events, and explaining different cultures, reading brings the world to students. These books will be used to add a greater variety of popular books to my library and small group reading lessons.
