It seems that there is no such thing as too many books in a second grade classroom, so I am asking for some help with a more diverse book list for my students. I am looking to bring the world to my classroom. We live and learn in a fairly insulated community. While my students come from varied economic backgrounds, culturally we are not. Reading books with characters from different cultures and backgrounds exposes students to children who they may not encounter in our school, but will in our greater community. The books that I have chosen not only expose my students to many different cultural backgrounds, they also teach kindness, empathy, and understanding. Thank you for considering our classroom.
