These low-level high-interest books will engage my students and increase literacy rates. Many of my students have not read a novel since their freshmen year because they have not read engaging books at their level. My students want nothing more than to read something they like. I happened upon a class set of Tears of a Tiger, by Sharon Draper and I had nearly 100% buy-in. In fact, one student said that that was the first book he'd ever read. I am confident that the books I have on this list (SOLD, Looking for Alaska, Monster and I Am Malala) will help further the idea that reading CAN be enjoyable. When my students read for enjoyment, they will become better readers and work on those critical thinking skills that are so important in our world.
