With a population of 1100 5th through 8th graders, our middle school is the largest in the parish. We are a performing arts academy, service school for visual and hearing impaired students. Here, we draw from highly diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Our students excel academically and artistically performing above most other schools in the area for standardized testing and talent competitions. We are the main feeder school for a performing arts/ medical academy high school. My 8th grade students are working hard to prepare for high school. With an aging building and equipment, as teachers we must be even more creative to provide the type of education our students will need to succeed in high school and eventual college curricula.
