My students are full of energy, and I want to channel that energy into their academics by giving them the freedom of alternative seating. By allowing them to wiggle and wobble while studying new and exciting content, I am supporting the whole child and their learning needs. I believe flexible seating will improve the retention of academic content in my students. They will be better able to concentrate if they are comfortable in their posture. A more realistic and pleasant environment in which to learn will only enhance my classroom culture. This inviting "coffee shop" layout will encourage my students to pursue knowledge with the utmost effort. Allowing students to choose which type of seating they work best in gives the students choice to choose their best learning environment. For example, the Wobble Chairs and the Stay-N-Play Balance Balls will allow for the students to move while working. Students that have a hard time sitting still will be able to wiggle and wobble in their chair while still be actively engaged in the lesson and their work. When wiggling in theses chairs, students have to use their core muscles to stay balanced while seated. Another great option for my kids are the Balance Discs which will allow for my kids to be seated on the floor and just like the Wobble Chairs, the Balance Discs wiggle and wobble except students get to sit cross-legged while working. These are great when we do group work and will allow for the students to pick them up and move around the classroom more easily.
