I currently teach Robotics, Math and SECME (Science, Engineering, Communication, and Math Enrichment) at a school in a high poverty area in one of the largest cities in Texas. My students often do not make it outside of the ward in which they are located once they graduate...so many do not realize the possibilities out there for them. We have a very high special education population and our school is roughly 85% African American and 15% Hispanic. My focus with my kids it to try to introduce them to the possibilities that they have in Engineering and all of the different places it can take them outside of the ward.
