I am requesting new instrument cases to ensure the longevity of the instruments and the future of our program. The music program at our elementary school serves low income students who would not be able to afford the opportunity to play an instrument on their own. The band program helps strengthen students' self-esteem and social skills, and it also gives them a sense of belonging. Research shows that participation in music is linked to higher test scores, better school attendance, and higher academic achievement. Here at our school, we look forward to continuing the band program for many years to come; however, as our music program ages, some of our instrument cases are wearing out. Instrument cases are very important for the longevity of the instrument itself. When the case wears out, the instrument is not well protected and is more vulnerable to being damaged. The new cases we hope to receive will keep the instruments in good working order and help to continue the legacy of music performance at our school.
