Many of my students come from low-income homes where necessities are scarce; being able to afford to by a novel is a luxury that many simply cannot afford. However, I am committed to helping my students become better readers and this is only possible with students can have their own copies of a high interest novel in which they can do a close read (annotate and analyze) and read at home as well. Students will choose a book to independently read during winter break and will be responsible for creating a BOOK TALK presentation that they will deliver to their peers, which includes rating the book of their choice out of 5 stars. Students will practice in engaging in literary conversations to help foster the love of reading and conversing with peers in a book club like setting. Winter break is the perfect time to cozy up with a book of your choosing and let your imagination take you away on a journey....all of the books are high interest young adult literature that explores coming of age and deal with social-emotional learning, self-awareness, identity, and friendships/relationships.
