My students LOVED the Katie Woo series! I will use titles like "Katie Woo Tries Something New" and "Pedro for President" as read alouds and mentor texts to teach the skills vital to growing reading and the second grade curriculum. I will use the reference titles such as "What Do You Think Katie: Writing an Opinion Piece With Katie Woo" to teach the different genres of writing. Using the familiar character, Katie Woo, students will learn from her mistakes and grow alongside her as writers. There is a Katie Woo reference book for each style of writing: narrative, poetry, opinion, and information! I've also included Spanish titles to reach my English Language Learners.
