We have implemented a new reading program this year. The books in this project will be used for three purposes. They will be used for classroom and home use. These books are unit books for each grade level. They are books that were not purchased as a part of the school materials. The books will be used for small group instruction with the teacher as well as trade books students will be able to take home. The books are another resource for our teachers to use to enhance their reading program. Finally, the other books in our project will be used for the school library to make sure all of our students have access to classic book titles. One of our school wide goals is to have our students earn 3,200 Accelerated Reader points this school year. I have also challenged several of our students to read one million words this school year. In order for the students to accomplish this goal they need a wide range of books accessible for them to read at all times. The books in this project will give our students more books to read in order to reach this goal. I have also included PE equipment so the children can have brain breaks and a chance to recharge to maximize their learning. The soccer balls and playground balls will also be used for recess. After reading research this summer, our administration decided to give all of our students two recess periods a day. This means all students are outside at one time. We do not have enough equipment for all students to play at the same time. The PE equipment in this project will be used for the PE class as well as whole school recess.
