My classroom is a self-contained group of elementary students on the Autism Spectrum. Although most students stay in our classroom most of the day they are encouraged to join their peers for activities like PE and Art. And some are even able to participate in certain academic activities with their grade level. The students have high sensory needs and follow a rigid schedule for each day. They are most successful when they can anticipate what will happen next at school. Myself and the 3 teaching assistants in our class have a huge desire for our students to succeed in the ways of the world. We have true learning empathy for those we have been entrusted to teach. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that is practical, loving and encouraging to both our students and their families. Our Team is guided by students' IEPs (Individualized Education Program ) which addresses all aspects of the student's learning.
